چکیده

INTRODUCTION Le Bihan et al (1) proposed using diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) based on intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) to distinguish pure molecular diffusion and microcirculation, or blood perfusion, by acquiring DW data with the diffusion sensitivity parameter b at low values (<200 sec/mm and at high values (>200 s/mm). The ability of IVIM to provide sensitive and specific values for the bi-exponential (BE) model is severely limited due to 1) the narrow range of relevant b-values associated with pseudo-diffusion in the faster diffusion component (i.e., the large slope of ln(S(b)) vs. b) and 2) the high degree of signal variability in low b-value measurements. We propose the stretched exponential (SE) model, previously considered for modeling high b-value data (2), as an alternative to describe IVIM diffusion signal.

Spatially constrained incoherent motion method improves diffusion-weighted MRI signal decay analysis in the liver and spleen.

PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of the spatially constrained incoherent motion (SCIM) method on improving the precision and robustness of fast and slow diffusion parameter estimates from diffusion-weighted MRI in liver and spleen in comparison to the independent voxel-wise intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) model. METHODS We collected diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) data of 29 subjects (5 hea...

Chemotherapy response evaluation in a mouse model of gastric cancer using intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted MRI and histopathology

AIM To determine the role of intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using a bi-exponential model in chemotherapy response evaluation in a gastric cancer mouse model. METHODS Mice bearing MKN-45 human gastric adenocarcinoma xenografts were divided into four treated groups (TG1, 2, 3 and 4, n = 5 in each group) which received Fluorouracil an...

Evaluation of intravoxel incoherent motion fitting methods in low‐perfused tissue

PURPOSE To investigate the robustness of constrained and simultaneous intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) fitting methods and the estimated IVIM parameters (D, D* and f) for applications in brain and low-perfused tissues. MATERIALS AND METHODS Model data simulations relevant to brain and low-perfused tumor tissues were computed to assess the accuracy, relative bias, and reproducibility (CV%) ...

Cerebral perfusion measurement in brain death with intravoxel incoherent motion imaging

Background: The assessment of brain death can be challenging in critically ill patients, and cerebral perfusion quantification might give information on the brain tissue viability. Intravoxel incoherent motion perfusion imaging is a magnetic resonance imaging technique, which extracts perfusion information from a diffusion-weighted sequence, and provides local, microvascular perfusion assessmen...

Spatially Constrained Probability Distribution Model of Incoherent Motion (spim) Improves Longitudinal Reproducibility of Quantitative Diffusion Weighted Mri

Purpose: Diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) of the body is a non-invasive imaging technique that enables characterization of tissue microenvironments through measurement of variations in the mobility of water molecules due to cellularity, cell membrane integrity, and compartment they are located. Quantitative DW-MRI has a well-established role in the detection, characterization and follow-up of a ...
